How do I find influencers?

There are three ways that actually work. Two of them are free and slow. One of them is this tool. Here is the honest version of each, including where the free ones fall down.

Where to startMost brands end up doing all three. Start with method two because it costs nothing and those creators are already warm, then use the tool to fill out the rest of the list.

  1. Method 1

    Search the platform by hand

    Go to the platform, search your niche hashtags, open the Reels or Explore feed, and click through the accounts that show up. Then use the suggested accounts panel on any good profile to find similar ones. This is free and it works. It is also slow, and the algorithm keeps pushing you toward the biggest accounts in the niche, which are usually the ones already priced out of your budget. Budget an afternoon to build a list of twenty, and expect half of them to be wrong.

    Look at who already follows you

    Check your own follower list and your customer list for anyone with an audience. These creators convert better than anyone you will find cold, because they already use the product and their audience can tell. Most brands skip this step entirely and it is the cheapest win available. The limit is size. You will find five or ten people this way, not fifty.

Before you pay anyone

Find influencers for your brand

Finding creators is easy, and the search above covers 400M+ of them. Finding creators who fit your brand is the part that takes time. A creator with the right follower count and the wrong audience costs you exactly as much as one who converts. Here is what to check before you send the first email.

  1. Check 1

    Does their audience match your customer?

    Follower count tells you how many people see a post. It does not tell you whether those people buy what you sell. Filter by audience location, age and gender before you filter by size. A creator with 8,000 followers in your actual market beats one with 80,000 spread across countries you do not ship to.

  2. Check 2

    Is the audience real?

    Buying followers is cheap and it is common. The tell is engagement that does not match the follower count, and a comment section where every comment is three words long. Check the engagement rate against the benchmark for that follower band before you look at anything else.

  3. Check 3

    Have they worked with brands before?

    A creator who has never done a paid post takes longer to brief and may not disclose the partnership properly. One who posts something sponsored every week has an audience that has learned to scroll past. The good ones sit in between, and you can tell which is which by scrolling their last twenty posts.

  4. Check 4

    Can you afford them?

    Ask for the rate before you fall in love with the account. Most creators in the 10,000 to 100,000 follower range cost less than brands expect. The ones with agents usually cost more. Get a number in the first email so you are not negotiating after you have already decided.
